Brazil tops medals table at South American Youth Championships (PER)

Brazil won 97 medals at the South American Youth Championships taking place in Lima, Peru, from March 16 to 27 at the Campo de Marte complex.

The Brazilian swimming team totalled 750.5 points and won 74 medals (35 golds, 21 silvers and 18 bronze). Venezuela finished in second position with 404.5 points and Argentina claimed third spot with a total 397.5 points.

In open water swimming events, the Brazilians took six medals (2 golds, 2 silvers and 2 bronze) while in synchronised Swimming, the girls garnered 16 medals (11 golds, 3 silvers and 2 bronze). In the men's water polo field, the Brazilian squad defeated Venezuela in the final 16 to 3 (5:1, 5:2, 1:0, 5:0). Diving is not in the programme of the South American Youth Championships.
