FINA looks ahead at the upcoming edition of the Swimming World Cup

FINA met with organisers of the annual Series of the FINA Swimming World Cup on August 2 to present the 2014 season reports and provide comprehensive feedback which included key broadcasting figures and TV revenue indication. The reports have been compiled by FINA long-term partner IEC.

Future SWC organisers gathered for the meeting in Kazan, where the FINA World Championships are currently underway.

Reports indicate that the 2014 SWC saw six World Records broken. The total broadcast hours was around 767,5K and 112 territories were covered (excluding places covered by the FINA Tv). This approximately represents 373 million households.

The 2015 FINA / airweave Swimming World Cup will be highlighted by the introduction of a new rule; the athletes will compete in a 50m-long pool (instead of 25m). A new title sponsor- airweave, top Japanese seller of bedding toppers and pillows- has also been signed. Omega, official time keeper, and Speedo remain official SWC Series Sponsors.

A special focus will be made on the promotion and the communication around this event to further develop the interaction with the swimming fans around the world and FINA digital platforms will be widely activated. The sport presentation will also be improved with various entertainments for the spectator within the venues.  

Lastly, the temporary calendar for the 2016 season was discussed. Third parties expressed their opinion with regards to the proposed dates. The German Swimming Federation mentioned that the country wishes to come back in the FINA /airweave SWC circuit with Berlin or Hamburg with a preference to host the German leg directly after the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
