Kazan welcomes first athletes for FINA Masters

Participants to the 16th FINA Masters World Championships have started to arrive in Kazan on Thursday July 30. Delegations and athletes from South Africa, the USA and Russia are settling in the capital city of Tatarstan. The eldest of them is 74 years old.

The 16th FINA World Masters Championships will be held from August 5-16. About 3,000 athletes representing 91 nations are expected to arrive. The Masters athletes will be accommodated in the Athletes’ Village.


With events taking place in 14 age groups (from 25 to more than 100 years old), the Masters World Championships programme includes five aquatic sports:

Open water swimming – August 7

Synchronised swimming – August 5-10

Diving – August 12-16

Water polo – August 10-16

Swimming – August 10-16


Training sessions kick off on August 2. Synchronised swimming teams will be first to try out Kazan’s swimming pools. The open water swimming training sessions are scheduled for August 4 whereas water polo players and swimmers will start their practices on August 7.

The competitions will take place at 5 sports venues: Aquatics Palace, Kazanka Venue, Burevestnik, Olymp and Akcharlak swimming pools.

The maximum number of medal events contested at the 16th FINA World Masters Championships is 635.
