PR 43 - FINA signs agreement with Seven Network

Press Release

Lausanne (SUI), May 12, 2015 - FINA is pleased to announce a long-term partnership with The Seven Network, Australia’s most-watched broadcast television platform. Under the new agreement, Seven is the home for the FINA World Championships for 2015 in Kazan, Russia and the FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary in 2017.

FINA’s agreement with Seven delivers free broadcast television and subscription television rights, and expands beyond television to Seven’s digital platforms, including mobile and online, and Hybrid Broadband Broadcast Television.

Seven will create and deliver the most comprehensive, technologically advanced, multi-platform coverage of the World Championships to all Australians on any communications device.

“The FINA World Championships is a true Aquatic Festival, capable of inspiring the youth worldwide. Australia is no exception, being a country that loves Aquatics and has many Stars in FINA disciplines. Therefore, this agreement with Seven is of paramount importance for the exposure and popularity of our Sport in this exciting country”, considered the FINA President Dr. Julio C. Maglione.

Saul Shtein, Seven’s Head of Sport, said: “This is a great signing for Seven. We are looking forward to the upcoming Championships in Russia and we are delighted to once again be the network of the World Championships. Seven was the first network to broadcast the World Championships in primetime – the 1998 Championships that announced the arrival of Ian Thorpe and Grant Hackett as World Champions in the lead-up to the Olympic Games in Sydney. The Championships are a great event and align perfectly with our long-term commitment to the Olympic Games.”
