PR 41 - World League 2013: Brazil, Canada and USA close qualification for Super Finals


Lausanne (SUI), May 28, 2013 – The eight teams participating in the Super Finals of the FINA Water Polo World Leagues 2013 are now selected, after the conclusion of the Americas preliminaries, organised in Los Alamitos (USA) on May 24-27.

Among men, USA and Brazil were qualified, each getting three victories and one loss out of the four matches contested. For the South American squad this is a significant success, as it represents its first presence in the decisive stage of the competition – Brazil is participating for the fourth time in the men’s World League. The team of Canada (not qualified) closed the group, without getting any success in the four-day tournament.

In the women’s field, the two tickets for the Super Final went to USA (four wins in four games) and Canada (two victories and two losses). Brazil – not qualified – was the third and last of the group, with four defeats.

Final rankings Americas (Men):
1. USA, 10 pts (3 wins, 1 loss); 2. BRA, 8 (3W, 1L); 3. CAN, 0 (4L)

Final rankings Americas (Women):
1. USA, 12 pts (4W); 2. CAN, 6 (2W, 2L); 3. BRA, 0 (4L)

The teams qualified for the Men’s Super Final, to be held in Chelyabinsk (RUS) from June 11-16, 2013 are: Brazil, China, Hungary, Japan, Montenegro, Russia, Serbia and USA.

The national squads qualified for the Women’s Super Final, to be staged in Beijing (CHN) on June 1-6, 2013 are: Australia, Canada, China, Hungary, Italy, Russia, Spain and USA.
